Ron Perlman is far from having any future Hellboy movies on his radar, saying he’s only concerned with the ones he did with Del Toro.

With Hellboy: The Crooked Man officially done filming, its arrival will undoubtedly be met with a mixture of skepticism and hype–based so much on the critical and commercial failure of 2019’s take. For many, the David Harbour-starring attempt was more than enough to sour the franchise; yet, how much worse could another go be? Some, however, will be completely indifferent, like Ron Perlman, who suggested the future of Hellboy is pretty far down on his list of things he should care about.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Ron Perlman said he’s not terribly interested in any other Hellboy movies except for the ones he did with Guillermo del Toro. “What happens with the character and the franchise on the periphery of any of that is none of my business…I prefer to just dwell in the feeling that I continue to have having played him and having played him for one of the great directors.” He added, “I was very happy with the version that Guillermo and I involved ourselves with…I thought we killed it, we knocked it out of the park.”

Ron Perlman’s positive Hellboy thoughts are in complete contrast to David Harbour, who played the character in the aforementioned 2019 movie and realized early on he was walking into dangerous territory since the Perlman/del Toro movies were so beloved by fans. Perlman even turned down a reboot out of loyalty to his director. Now, if we can just make it a full trilogy (no matter how old Perlman is), that might give Hellboy acolytes a more promising project to look forward to…

Hellboy: The Crooked Man will star neither Ron Perlman nor David Harbour, but rather Jack Kesy, who will play Hellboy for Crank director Brian Taylor. The plot: “In the 1950s, Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent, stranded in rural Appalachia, discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.”
