Action icon Sylvester Stallone shares his experiences of his incredible life and career in the new Netflix documentary with interviews from many guests.
Just as Netflix released a docu-series on the action icon-turned-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, a new look has been released for a documentary on another cinematic icon and Schwarzenegger’s brother-in-arms, Sylvester Stallone. It’s no secret how Rocky is semi-autobiographical with Stallone’s struggle to make it in the movie business, and then he gets his million-to-one shot. Rocky may not have won his fight, but Rocky won an Academy Award and the hearts of countless people. Stallone’s world was forever changed. Netflix has just released the trailer for Sly.
The official logline from Netflix reads,
“For nearly 50 years Sylvester Stallone has entertained millions with iconic characters and blockbuster franchises, from Rocky to Rambo to The Expendables. This retrospective documentary offers an intimate look at the Oscar-nominated actor-writer-director-producer, paralleling his inspirational underdog-story with the indelible characters he has brought to life.
Sly made its world premiere when it was chosen as the Closing Night Gala film at the Toronto International Film Festival and will release globally on Netflix November 3.”
The trailer shows a very intimate introspection with Stallone as he reflects on his life — how his dreams nearly fizzled as a starving actor and what became important to him in the whirlwind of fame and fortune. Sly gets very blunt and candid as he addresses the fears and insecurities he’s had and what he hopes to fulfill in his life. The trailer features appearances of guest interviews that include the likes of Quentin Tarantino, Talia Shire, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Henry Winkler, along with appearances from his family, which he shares the TV screen with on the Paramount+ reality show, The Family Stallone.
