Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy says that while there are no plans for Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2, he could return in a movie.

After years of rumours, Ewan McGregor finally returned as Obi-Wan Kenobi for a limited series released on Disney+. The series was a success (although not without its critics), and many fans have been wondering if a second season is possible. Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy told the Dagobah Dispatch podcast that Obi-Wan Kenobi could still return, perhaps even in a movie.

I always hesitate to say no to more Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maybe we end up doing something that gets incorporated into some of the other stories that we’re doing, or eventually into a movie, but who knows?” Kathleen Kennedy said. “But right now, it’s still our standard stand-alone limited series, we have no plans for expansion right now.” The Lucasfilm boss is clearly keeping her options open, but both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have said that they would return for more. It’d be interesting to see just where Obi-Wan Kenobi could pop up in another movie, and fans’ desire to see Ewan McGregor in the role again hasn’t diminished.

I really hope we do another,” Ewan McGregor told British GQ. “If I could do one of these every now and again — I’d just be happy about it.” Hayden Christensen told Radio Times, “I would love to continue with this character. You know, I think there’s certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series took place ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith and followed the former Jedi master as he sets off on a mission to rescue a young Leia Organa. Along the way, he confronts his former apprentice and accepts that Anakin Skywalker has been consumed by Darth Vader. The project had originally been pitched as a trilogy of movies by Stuart Beattie, who conceived a story which would have explored Kenobi’s transition from the character we saw at the end of Revenge of the Sith to the one we first met in A New Hope. The underperformance of Solo: A Star Wars Story caused Disney to reconsider, and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story made the leap to the small screen.
