James Gunn seemingly confirms Krypto the Superdog will play a role in the upcoming DC film Superman: Legacy.

If you didn’t get enough Krypto in DC League of Super-Pets, hold onto your leash because James Gunn is bringing the Man of Steel’s loyal pooch back for Superman: Legacy. During an interview with the Toronto Sun, longtime collaborators James Gunn and Chris Pratt spoke about their new film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While discussing the latest exploits of Star-Lord and his merry band of a-holes, Gunn teased that Krypto would appear in his upcoming Superman film, Superman: Legacy.

While discussing other ways the dynamic duo could work together, Gunn joked that Pratt could play Krypto in Superman: Legacy. “I was hoping I could cast you as Krypto… the Superdog,” Gunn told Pratt. “But you’d have to be like Maria, and you’d have to do motion capture on set, and walk around on your hands and knees.” (Gunn refers to Maria Bakalova, who plays Cosmo the Spacedog in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.) Pratt, always ready to lean into a bit, called Gunn’s comments into the conversation spotlight, saying, “So, it sounds like there’s going to be a character called Krypto in Superman — breaking news.” Toronto Sun’s Mark Daniell replied, “That’s a scoop for me!” Gunn replied, “It is a scoop, I guess, huh?” Pratt then razzed the DC Studios boss, saying, “Way to go. You’re fired. Back to Marvel.”

Gunn could be pulling our leg, but the news is thin with the WGA writers’ strike gumming up the works, my friends. How amazing would it be if Krypto did show up in Superman: Legacy? Every film is better with a good boy fighting alongside one of fiction’s greatest heroes.

Krypto the Superdog appears in DC League of Super-Pets, the studio’s 2022 animated film. Dwayne Johson voices Krypto in the animated adventure, though I doubt he’ll reprise the role if Krypto pads into Superman: Legacy. Thankfully, Gunn completed the script for Superman: Legacy before the WGA writers’ strike kicked into high gear. Casting rumors for a new Superman continue to fly, but Gunn is keeping potential stars close to the chest.

Would it be fun for Krypto the Superdog to show up in Superman: Legacy? Feel free to let us know what you think in the comments below.
