The Flash director Andy Muschietti spoils a superhero cameo in the Scarlet Speedster’s new film that will have fans screaming with joy!

Editor’s note: As one of the lucky few who has seen The Flash in its entirety, it’s disappointing that the cameos are starting to leak out with only three weeks to go before it gets released. While the cameo below has been spoiled elsewhere, if you’ve managed to avoid it, don’t read it now. It ruins one of the movie’s biggest and best surprises. You’ve been warned.

This is the point of no return. Proceed with caution!

Welp! The superpowered cat is out of the bag, folks! Roughly three weeks before The Flash races into theaters for general audiences, the film’s director, Andy Muschietti, revealed a massive spoiler for the Scarlet Speedster’s new movie. While speaking with Esquire Middle East, Muschietti confirmed that Nicolas Cage appears as Superman in the new film. Why would he share this with the world instead of letting it be a surprise for fans? I guess he’s looking to put butts in seats and knows hardcore Superman fans will turn out to see Cage as the Man of Steel. Still, people are likely to feel burned by this news getting out. I would not be surprised if Muschietti catches flack for the reveal.

“Nic was absolutely wonderful,” Muschietti said, confirming The Flash brings Cage’s canceled role as Supes to the silver screen. “Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it… I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon.”

If you’re unfamiliar with Cage’s Superman history, the wily actor almost played the Man of Steel in Tim Burton’s defunct Superman Lives 25 years ago. Cage is a Superman obsessive. He and his ex-wife Alice Kim even named their son Kal-El, after the DC hero who could leap tall buildings in a single bound.

“He is a massive Superman fan. A comic book fanatic,” Muschetti added.

Speaking with Variety in March, Cage described Burton’s would-be version of the Son of Krypton: “It was more of a 1980s Superman with like, the samurai black long hair.” Adding, “I thought it was gonna be a really different, sort of emo Superman, but we never got there.”

“Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past,” reads the official synopsis of The Flash. “But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?”

The good news is there are still plenty of cameos and surprises waiting in The Flash when the movie hits theaters on June 16, 2023. Are you excited to see The Flash next month? Let us know in the comments below!
