Vernon Kay has shared a tutorial on the “best way to mop a floor” – and was trolled by Shane Richie for it.
The 46-year-old first showed off his cleaning skills at Gwrych Castle during I’m a Celebrity last year.
ITV viewers were introduced to the ‘figure of eight’ technique when Vernon taught it to Jordan North on the series.
And since leaving the castle, the TV presenter has continued to show off the technique, including it in a tutorial on Twitter yesterday (January 12).
The video details how to “mop your floor perfectly,” showing his approach to the household chore.
It begins with Vernon preparing a bucket of hot water, adding washing up liquid, bleach and de-greaser – before the former Family Fortunes host is shown ringing out the mop.
The dad-of-two, who is married to Tess Daly, then tells viewers to create a ‘frame’ of the area that will be mopped, as this will cover any part of the floor that’s missed by the figure of eight itself.
The tutorial concludes with Vernon showing off the technique, which he performs as a salsa dance routine.
The post quickly received praise from his followers, with Gwrych Castle calling it “peak lockdown content.”
Another followed commented: “Is this about to inspire a spin off Youtube channel where you just give us a new top-tip for cleaning each week? I’m weirdly invested.”
“The best thing I’ve ever seen. Move over #MrsHinch, [Vernon] can take things from here” said another.
Others said the technique was “brilliant” and a “good method,” with some praising Vernon’s “nice skills.”
However, a few followers pointed out that mixing chemicals isn’t recommended.
Although the tutorial received praise, others said it suggested Vernon has “lost the plot” in lockdown.
“Not sure who’s more bored. You for making it or me for watching it all,” one of his followers responded.
It also attracted Shane Richie’s attention, who appeared to jokingly troll his former campmate last night.
His response, accompanied by an angry red-faced emoji, teased: “Sweet baby Jesus! You really are bored.”
Vernon replied by explaining that he’d left the kid’s fractions to Tess “so thought [he’d] pass on what [he’d] learnt” from previously being a cleaner for Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council.
