Maid Netflix: What happened to Danielle? | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

Maid is on Netflix now and the emotional series continues to hold one of the top spots in the streaming platform’s top 10. The eye-opening TV series is based on events that sadly occur on a daily basis, starring Margaret Qualley as the main character Alex. In the show, she becomes friends with another mother at a domestic abuse shelter – Danielle (Aimee Carrero) – but what became of her?

What happened to Danielle in Maid?

Maid tells the heartbreaking story of young mother Alex as she tries to make a new life for her daughter Maddy (Rylea Nevaeh Whittet).

She tried to flee from her emotionally abusive boyfriend Sean (Nick Robinson) and got a job as a maid in order to keep off the streets.

On two occasions she ended up at a shelter for women escaping domestic violence, and she befriended a woman called Danielle.

Danielle helped Alex get her own back on prudish homeowner Regina (Anika Noni Rose), who had refused to pay Alex for her work.

She also helped motivate Alex when it came to winning back custody of her daughter.

However, when Alex went to share the good news with Danielle, she found her room was empty.

When Alex asked the shelter manager Denise (BJ Harrison) about where she went, Denise gave a knowing look.

Just as viewers thought they would not see Danielle again, Alex bumped into her one evening and she looked taken aback.

While Alex was thrilled to see Danielle, the mother tried to deny the fact she knew Alex and walked away.

This only happened when Alex spotted Danielle with a man, who appears to be her abusive partner.

From this, it seems unfortunately Danielle felt she had no choice but to return to the family unit.

She certainly did not look happy when Alex saw her, but she may have felt it was best for her son.

Denise had said Danielle had been at the shelter numerous times, so she may well find herself back there in the near future.

Fans took to Reddit to discuss what happened to Danielle, as they had been rooting for her as one of the show’s protagonists.

Silverrainn said: “Is anyone else disappointed we didn’t get any closure for Danielle?

“I know it’s probably more realistic that we didn’t get closure, but I would have loved to see her walking into the shelter, as Alex was walking out for the last time.

“I feel like I was left hanging after she pretended to not know Alex. It feels like an open end that would have been easy to tie up, even if it wasn’t a perfectly happy resolution.”

The lack of closure could be an indication of how women in real domestic violence situations can go through the same motions time and time again.

Leslielove88 added: “Pretty sure that was intentional, often with women in DV situations they are so isolated it’s as if they disappear. This was also visualized with Alex sliding into the couch.”

Sad-but-hydrated said: “It’s especially poignant that Danielle is initially portrayed as so strong and self possessed – her persona falls away and we see she is just as broken as Alex is when we start the series.”

Reediculus1 said: “When they talk about the average victim going back 7 times….well Danielle is just part of that stat.”

Meanwhile, blackcatheaddesk concluded: “And then there are the ones who leave repeatedly but always go back. It can go on for decades.”

The series has received praise from real victims of domestic violence as it has sparked a much-needed conversation.

The review website Rotten Tomatoes said: “Maid takes great care with its sensitive subject matter to craft a drama that is not always easy to watch, but undeniably powerful, grounded by an outstanding performance by Margaret Qualley.”
