George Clooney and Julia Roberts book their tickets to paradise in Australia

PS hears the production is also taking over the Palm Bay Resort on Long Island and recreating a Balinese paradise. The big-name stars are expected to be ferried about the islands on a fleet of luxury helicopters.

Federal Arts Minister Paul Fletcher has previously revealed the production will receive a $6.4 million grant from the government’s Location Incentive Program. The production, which will employ 270 cast and crew, is also pumping much-needed money – to the tune of $47 million – mostly into the local economy, which has been decimated by the pandemic, border closures and travel bans.

Building blitz

The renovation boom sweeping Sydney during the pandemic, estimated to be worth up to a billion dollars a month, has come at a high price in other ways too.

Seven Network commercial director Bruce McWilliam ended up in the Land and Environment Court this week over a new staircase approval he sought from Woollahra Council for an investment property.

The stairs, part of an overall refurbishment designed by Blainey North, were hidden in the property’s garden and had not drawn any objection from neighbours, though council had refused to approve them.

McWilliam managed to win his case this week, but agrees the cost of the stairs was probably equal to the legal fight he has gone through to get them there.

Over in Bronte, celebrity real estate agent D’Leanne Lewis has found herself in the Land and Environment Court after Waverley Local Council knocked back her plans to add a second storey to her Bronte home.

Lewis, who is currently shooting the second season of (un)reality Sydney real estate show Luxe Listings, declined to comment when PS called. However, it is understood she has lived in the area for more than a decade and needs to expand the home to accommodate her growing children.

No word on whether the drama will feature on the TV show.

While James Packer is trying to offload his IJE superyacht for $280 million – about $80 million more than he paid for it – his old mate Lachlan Murdoch has started counting down the days before the arrival of his new floating big boy’s toy, a sleek sailing yacht.

Dutch shipbuilder Royal Huisman is planning to have the new boat ready for the northern hemisphere spring.

If all goes to plan, US-based Murdoch and his family (wife Sarah and their three children live in Sydney while dad embarks on the commute between Australia and the United States for the foreseeable future) could be on board about March.

But the reportedly $150 million build is shrouded in secrecy and has been given not one, but according to the Financial Review in April, two code names: Project 404 and MM597.

Either way, at about the same length as an Olympic swimming pool, it promises to make a splash. According to the promotional material: “The exterior design is sleek yet striking, embodying Royal Huisman’s ‘spirit of individuality’; it is intended to cut an imposing shape on the water and earn her a rightful place as one of the most iconic sailing superyachts afloat.”

Murdoch has been busy marking milestones in recent weeks: his 50th birthday, his father Rupert’s delayed 90th birthday celebrations and his controversial American news network Fox’s 25th anniversary, for which the Murdochs had New York’s Empire State Building bathed in red, white and blue this week.

Meanwhile, Packer’s IJE has been steaming its way around the French Riviera this week, not far from where another billionaire has been showing off his latest floating palace.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg bought an ultra-luxury yacht named Ulysses for about $200 million at the Monaco Yacht Show last month, which was also where IJE was on show for potential buyers.

Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have been using the 107-metre yacht for the past five months.

That’s some test drive.

Out of court and into a bikini

Sydney’s “eyebrow queen”, 36-year-old beautician Kristin “Rio” Fisher, managed to get over her “dreadful mistake” just hours after having her cocaine possession conviction annulled on Wednesday at Waverley Local Court.

Within hours of appearing in court, the mother of two was back to her old tricks: posting branded bikini selfies on Instagram and praising her good mate Shelley Barrett, the founder of the ModelCo cosmetics brand and social-scene fixture, who had written a glowing character reference tendered to the court on Fisher’s behalf.

Fisher’s solicitor Michael Bowe also told the court his client was very much looking forward to opening her luxurious Double Bay salon next week after enduring months of lockdown and trying to keep on top of the $30,000 a month rent bill.

He said Fisher was intending to donate a percentage of her turnover to help Indigenous children, having developed an affinity with the local Indigenous community when she grew up in Broome before going off to boarding school in Perth.

No doubt the joint will be, ahem, buzzing.
